Six years ago, I needed something to do with my time. I had retired from teaching. I had hours to fill. What was I going to do? I found retirement stressful. I had always feared retirement as I was so used to being busy.

Knitting saved me. It kept me centred and filled the many hours that I used to spend at work.

I dug out some yarn that I had and started knitting. I began with socks. It was February and who doesn’t wear socks in winter.

I knit caps and mitts (email me for a free pattern atnannys.trunk.of.treasures@gmaill.com). I bought some acrylic yarn from Mary Maxim, an online store and from Paradise Yarns, a manufacturer in Turkey. Today I purchase most of my yarns from Herrschners online store.

My favourite yarn, was the wool I had bought from the Codroy Mill, over twenty years ago.  I had poked it away and rediscovered it.

I create one of-a-kind items.

I create my own patterns. If you would like a PDF copy of my pattern for a pair of boiled mittens email me at nannys.trunk.of.treasures@gmaill.com.

Further posts on my blog will include more on how knitting is good for dealing with stress and is good for arthritic hands.
