Our farm was once a part of a larger farm that housed horses for slaughter.

When we first came here from Canada, we sometimes heard doors opening and closing. Often things were not in their places, not always where we left them.

We had the house blessed, twice, by a Catholic priest, and things are now quiet.

I think it is the spirit of the horses that we experienced. I am someone who thinks of horses as pets, something to ride or to use to help with work, not food.

There was too much blood on this farm, but things are now calm.

Another experience of something super natural would be the night my grandfather, my mom`s father passed away.

I knew he had passed away minutes before my mother called me to let me know.  I woke up in the middle of the night and sensed him and felt a goodbye.

This is unexplainable when I was thousands of kilometres from home. He was in St. John`s, Newfoundland and Labrador and I was in Iqaluit, Nunavut.

Another grandfather once told me of his experiences with the super natural.

One story, he told, was about when, he was traveling by dog-team in Northern Labrador. He was a young man at the time and a winter storm came on.

He was lucky to be close to our summer home at the time and was able to get shelter.

He told us that he was not long at the cabin, when he heard his dogs barking.

He went outside and saw Old Smoker pass on his dog team. Old Smoker was a bootlegger who travelled between Newfoundland and Labrador.

When he died, the story goes he has to help lost dog teams in the Labrador storms. There are many stories of people who saw Old Smoker.
